School Principal Selection Advisory Committee (SPSAC)

Dear DCISM Community,

I want our community members to know what to expect as we begin the search for a new school leader. DPS considers selecting a new principal as one of the essential components when building highly effective schools. Consequently, the district has created a very comprehensive pre-screening process for aspiring principal candidates. The process includes a thorough, half-day screening process prior to candidates’ admission to the principal selection pool. As a result, I am confident that we will have a number of highly qualified candidates that could be considered to lead DCISM.

Beginning next week, we will start the process of creating a School Principal Selection Advisory Committee (SPSAC) in coordination with the School Advisory Board (SAB). With any principal selection committee, there are certain steps we must take to ensure that the committee members and the community-at-large are confident and clear with the process.

The SAB will be charged with compiling a diverse and representative team to serve on the School Principal Selection Advisory Committee. The role of the SPSAC will be to interview candidates and identify strengths and areas of concern for each candidate that will be shared with the Superintendent. Candidates will participate in a variety of additional interview components, such as a learning walk to gauge their instructional expertise, as well as an interview with a student panel.

Please see the attached timeline and steps in the process. This is to help you better understand what to expect and/or commitment should you decide to be a part of this SPSAC. I have also included two links at the bottom of this email. The first provides you with the opportunity to give feedback as to what factors should be considered when looking for a new principal. The second link is the application you need to complete if you would like to be part of the SPSAC.

Thank you for your support as we work together during this transitional period. In the meantime, please feel free to connect with or myself ( for any additional information you may need.
